Kim and Jon in Puerto Rico   Nov30-Dec 3, 2006

We were greeted on our arrival day with extremely high winds which brought some overnight rain.  You couldn't go in the ocean and all water sports were cancelled for this day and the next.  This made planning excursions tough so we had some lunch, checked out the facilities, and went to get ready for the ADP welcome banquet which was moved inside.

On the second day we went into Old San Juan.  We checked out some old forts, had a Pina Colada at the birthplace of the Pina Colada, and did a little shopping.  The Spanish held the island of Puerto Rico and the fort for nearly 500 years.  In that time they drove back attacks from the British, French, and Dutch until 1898 when America came down and whooped up on them in a couple hours.  Later that night we went on a sunset catamaran cruise and then had dinner at a nice Italian place at the hotel.

Our 3rd day was spent walking the beach and spending time at the pool.  During one of our walks on the beach we came across a palm tree that had been uprooted so we took a few minutes and planted it again.  Probably way to close to the water, but oh well.  It was an uneventful day until the evening dinner when we were taken to a unique experience at a private residence near our hotel.  It was a working horse farm owned by a wealthy family that imports/exports horses.  The house was amazing, mostly without walls and exposed to the elements.  Their were hundreds of tiki torches everywhere with servers and bartenders around every corner.  We had a great dinner with belly dancers for entertainment.  We left the camera at the hotel for this event, but there were professional photographers on site so we will hopefully have some pictures back soon.

On our last day in Puerto Rico we hiked through the El Yunque rain forest.  This is the only rain forest in the US National Park Service.  When they say rain forest here they mean it.  We ran into heavy downpours 4 times in our 1.5 hour hike.  About half way through we came across a waterfall with a pool at the bottom and Jon got in for a quick dip to cool off.  We left the hotel at 3:30 to head for the airport and go home.  It was a great long weekend.  Thanks again to Kim for working so hard and winning the trip!
